NUIN Graduate Student Sara Vargas Awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

NUIN Ph.D. candidate Sara Vargas (Lee Lab) is one of 2,500 students selected for the 2026-2027 National Science Foundation's Graduate Research Fellowship Program. Out of 14,000 applicants, the NSF awards this prestigious fellowship only to the most outstanding graduate students in STEM. The Graduate Research Fellowship Program, which provides three years of financial support to students who show potential for significant advances in research, has been running since 1952 and has supported over 70,000 students, more than 40 of whom have gone on to receive Nobel Prizes.
