Bill Klein Featured in Northwestern News

Neuron

Professor Bill Klein was featured in Northwestern News for a collaboration study published in Brain for the discovery of amyloid in the brains of some young adults. The article, Alzheimer Amyloid Clumps Found in Young Adult Brains, written by Maria Paul, highlights the importance of these findings. It’s long been known that large amyloid plaques build up outside neurons in aging adults and in Alzheimer’s, but scientists believe this is the first time that small clumps of the amyloid has been shown in such young human brains. The lifelong accumulation of these small clumps in the brain may contribute to Alzheimer’s, an idea proposed by Professor Klein a number of years ago.

Northwestern collaborators on the work include first author laina Baker-Nigh, Shahrooz Vahedi, Elena Goetz Davis, Sandra Weintraub, Eileen H. Bigio and lead investigator Changiz.
