Annual 2020-2021 Course Plan

ATTENTION!
Enrollment in NEUROSCI 202-0 and NEUROSCI 206-0 is limited to declared neuroscience majors only!

NEUROSCI 101-6-20 First-Year Seminar: "This is Your Brain on College" will be taught by Luke Flores, PhD. Class meetings will be synchronous and remote but recorded.

NEUROSCI 202-0-20 Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience will be taught asynchronously by Dave McLean, PhD.  Prerequisites: Must be a neuroscience major, and either BIOL_SCI 217-0 or BIOL_SCI 201-0 and either; CHEM 151-0 or CHEM 171-0 with a B- grade or above; or CHEM 132-0 or CHEM 152-0 or CHEM 172-0.

NEUROSCI 304-0-20 Developmental Neurobiology will be taught by Thomas Bozza, PhD. using a Hybrid method. Lectures will be synchronous and remote but recorded. One-two weeks of class will be devoted to socially-distanced demonstration labs that students attend in Hogan Hall in place of class meetings. Schedule TBA, options will be available. Prerequisites: BIOL_SCI 215-0 or BIOL_SCCI 201-0 and one of the following: NEUROSCI 202-0 or  NEUROSCI 311-0 or BIOL_SCI 302-0. May not receive credit for both BIOL_SCI 215-0 and BIOL_SCI 201-0.

NEUROSCI 320-0-21 Animal Behavior will be taught by Yevgenia Kozorovitskiy, PhD. using a synchronous method. Lectures (typically Tuesdays) will be remote synchronous but recorded. For student presentations (typically Thursdays) students will be assigned presentations which will be made remotely. Prerequisites: NEUROSCI 202-0 and NEUROSCI 206-0; or NEUROSCI 311-0 and NEUROSCI 206-0; or BIOL_SCI 302-0.

NEUROSCI 324-0-20 Neurobiology of Biological Clocks and Sleep will be taught synchronously by Fred Turek, PhD. Lectures will be synchronous and remote but recorded. May not receive credit for both this course and the former BIOL_SCI 324-0. Prerequisite: NEUROSCI 202-0 or NEUROSCI 311-0 or BIOL_SCI 302-0.

NEUROSCI 360-0-20 Neuroscience of Brain Disorders will be taught by Valerie Kilman, PhD. using a Hybrid method. Hybrid class with in-person weekly discussion. Lectures (typically MW) will be synchronous and remote but recorded. Discussions on Friday will be in-person small group meetings (up to 15 students). Remote discussion participants should enroll in section 63. See CAESAR for discussion section choices. Accommodations will be made for students who cannot meet in person. Prerequisites: NEUROSCI 202-0 and NEUROSCI 206-0; NEUROSCI 311-0 and NEUROSCI 206-0; or BIOL_SCI 302-0. Recommend review of basic genetics and molecular biology.

NEUROSCI 390-0-61 Neuro-Anatomy Laboratory will be taught remotely by Justin Brown, PhD using a synchronous method. Class meetings will be synchronous and remote. Class meetings will be recorded. Students who cannot attend the synchronous class meetings can fully participate by viewing the recordings and by asking questions in office hours. Animal and cadaver dissections will be discussed in class. Students will have the opportunity to view some dissections in person (this is optional and students can fully participate in class without attending any in-person activities). Prerequisites: NEUROSCI 202-0 and NEUROSCI 206-0; or NEUROSCI 311-0 and NEUROSCI 206-0.

NUIN 486-0 The Biology of Sleep will be taught by Dr. Ravi Allada. This class is complementary to NEUROSCI 324-0. Registration for this course requires permission of the Neuroscience Director of Undergraduate Studies. May be used as a Group B elective. More details will be available asap. Prerequisite: NEUROSCI 324-0  and permission of the Neuroscience Director of Undergraduate Studies.
